The prize can be both monetary and non-monetary. It is used as a retention tool to let employees know their efforts have been recognized and reinforce the organization&#8217;s values.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two characteristics of a spot award are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>It is instant<\/strong> &#8211; The award is given at the moment. Recognizing an employee three months after their performance would not be considered a spot award. The word spot indicates the award is given &#8220;on the spot.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Monetary and non-monetary<\/strong> &#8211; Employees can receive non-monetary recognition (such as a certificate) or monetary (cash, bonus, gift certificates, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A good spot award program has a balance between monetary and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aihr.com\/blog\/non-monetary-incentives\/\">non-monetary incentives<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-spot-award-examples\">Spot award examples<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-non-monetary-spot-award-examples\">Non-monetary spot award examples<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Social media shout-out<\/strong> &#8211; To recognize an employee by giving them praise on company social media platforms.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Wall of fame <\/strong>&#8211; A wall, in the office or virtual, is used to put up photos of employees doing great work.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enjoy a meal on the company<\/strong> &#8211; Giving an employee a free lunch, for example, paid for by the company.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rotating trophy<\/strong> &#8211; A trophy that can recognize an employee who exemplifies a particular value or goes beyond the call of duty on the job. In other words, make a big deal about it.
